Hostage rescued so swiftly he hardly knew it
ZAMBOANGA CITY—The soldiers came swiftly before dawn and before he knew it, Charlie Reith was free from two months in captivity and the three kidnappers guarding him had scampered away without firing a shot.
“I was very much delighted when they told me that I was in secure hands,” Reith later told reporters. “I can’t really say things to you very much because it was a lightning fast operation. It was dark; it was around 2:30 in the morning.”
